Computer professionals should have good reasoning and logical problem solving abilities, be observant, alert to element and tenacious in pursuing problems to completion. At MIT, researchers begin experimenting with direct keyboard input to computers, a precursor to right now┬┤s regular mode of operation. Typically, laptop customers of the time fed their packages into a computer utilizing punched cards or paper tape. Doug Ross wrote a memo advocating direct entry in February. Ross contended that a Flexowriter – an electrically-controlled typewriter – linked to an MIT computer could perform as a keyboard enter system due to its low price and suppleness. An experiment performed 5 months later on the MIT Whirlwind computer confirmed how helpful and handy a keyboard input machine could be.
